Some ASHER love....

(pictured here at cousin/friend Jannika's house...isn't she a cutie?) Sometimes I think that my loving, happy middle child gets left out of things. Maybe because he truly reflects the meaning of his name. He is "happy and blessed." He doesn't require much to be happy....He just IS ...and I LOVE you for that Ash-Ash!
Some of his favorite things (directly quoted by him) are:
FRESH LEAVES
BABY SASSAFRAS SISSY
ELI, my brodder (brother)
BEING WITH FRIENDS
PLAYING VIDEO GAMES (the only time he ever cries, is when I tell him he can't play video games on SUNDAY.)
DAD and MOM (phew! we made the list)
EATING VANILLA ICE CREAM

He is KINDA a homebody (hmm.. wonder where that came from?) although he really likes going to the ZOO, CHILDREN's MUSEUM at the GATEWAY, the SWIMMING POOL, and to his friend BRANDON's... He DOES NOT enjoy going to WALMART (who does? uggh!) or any form of shopping.

Here he is on the spider ropes at the ZOO... what a CUTIE. What do we love about you ASH?

YOU SHARE.
YOU SNUGGLE.
YOU CARE.
YOU KISS mom EVERYDAY!
and SISSY.
YOUR SWEET TOOTH. (he's always up for a calorie fest:)
All of your STARWARS movie quotes.
and calling everyone "kid" like Han Solo.
Your fetish for STARWARS figurines...especially "dead Count Dooku" (one of my favorites, too:)
Your cute ASHERISMS:
"at Sleep" instead of "Asleep"
"It's Goodmorning." instead of "It's Morning."
and our favorite : "SUM PING" who is not a man from China, but "something."
(I'll miss that one someday I'm sure:)

A Brand New Man...

Poor Judd, you've had a rough week:(
after getting my icky cold, and still enduring 50 additional hours of overtime at work,
(though you were quite sick)
You had a septoplasty, sinus cleansing/flushing, tonsillectomy, adnoidectomy this morning...
...and when you were woke up from surgery, you met Avey and I with a smile, and said " It wasn't that bad!"
Then, as I was filling your prescriptions on the way home from the hospital, things took a turn for the worst...
PAIN... lots of pain.
You are handling it so much better than I did. (what a sissy, I was:)
I am so impressed by your ENDURANCE this week.
I love you.
Don't worry, honey!
You're taking it like a CHAMP, and by next friday, you should feel like a BRAND NEW MAN!
(I hope, I hope, I hope:)

All Hallow's Eve...

We went to a church activity called "trunk or treat", where everyone pulls their cars into the parking lot, and hands eager children candy from their trunks:) Avey discovered lollipops.
This is what our "trunk" looked like. My favorite treat was the bottled "zombie virus" and "liquid phantom" I think the kid's favorite treat, was the bubalicious gum:)

Our Iron-man and our skeleton. Ash kept singing "I am iron-man. da-da- DADA-DADA-dum-dum-dum." (you know the song:) Eli kept asking us to draw a line through the humarus bone, so everyone would know that his is fractured. We were just glad that we got the costume to fit over the splint.

"I am Iron-man!"

Hope your Halloween was a fun one!

A conversation with a 7 year old...

Madeleine (Eli's school mate) :
"Hi, Keiauni." (I look up from talking to Eli)
Keiauni:
"hey, Madeleine!"
Madeleine (truly horrified) :
"WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE??????"
Keiauni:
"huh?"
Madeleine:
" I mean, it was fine yesterday, and then today ...BOOM! It's so RED and...whoa! It's really bad... What happened to you?"
Keiauni:
"um, I guess I didn't put any makeup on today."
...don't worry guys, I did today! Aren't kids hilarious?

For JANELL...

(sing to "ding dong the witch is dead...")

"Who's in LOVE with a mean old Witch? ...a wicked old witch....
...Kyle's in LOVE with a wicked old Witch ... I said! "

Eli Update... (it's a long one:))

Our "Pie" turned 8 recently. He is such a terrific kid. There are so many things that I love about this boy. He is our firstborn, and he came into the world weighing in at a whopping 8lbs 15 1/2 oz. (that's big to me:)) He had a dark complection, and TONS of black curly hair. He walked at 8 1/2 months! (shocking, but true!) and has always been very agile and athletic. He loves anything that Judd loves. Motorsports, hunting, watching the Jazz, and watching nature documentaries. He also LOVES cooking. His favorite chef is Emeril Lagasse. He is a HARD worker, and is always the first to finish his chores. He never says "no." when I ask him to do something. He just does it. He is a great friend and student. As many of you know, Eli has Autism, and faces his challenges head-on, and works hard everyday to rise above these challenges. We love this boy, and are so proud of him!!
Eli, you are a AWESOME brother to Ash and Avey.
Eli got Baptized on October 11th, in Tooele. It was so good to have so many people that we know and love to be there on his special day. He tells me EVERYDAY "Today I'm going to choose the right, Mom!"

After E's baptism, we went to Gardner Village with the little cousins, to see the witches. Eli loved these street signs.

Mr Eli finished up the soccer season with a Crazy hairdo, and a ton of slide- tackling fun. He even yelled at the ref a couple of times for good measure! (apparently, he thought some flags should have been thrown!)

We wanted to make sure that everyone knew that E was #6!!

Here he is feeding a swan at Hogle Zoo last week (swan not pictured:)) I have to laugh at the "Mountain Dew" hat. You gotta know that Judd bought it for him!

He's always up for a chance to hold Sassafras!

The last but not least thing with Eli, is: HE BROKE HIS ARM ON SATURDAY! So, the score is Bunkbed-2. Eli-0. He jumped off the bed at age 4 and hairline fractured his wrist. (It was an unfortunate incident that occurred when his "spidey" webs malfunctioned, and did not deploy to break his fall.) This time he just rolled out of bed at 5am Saturday morning...in his sleep. To make a long story short, he is a tough guy, and has taken everything like a champ! (and we no longer have bunk beds.) His right arm is broken right above his elbow, with a part of the fracture trailing down towards the joint. We have had various consults, and were told he would need to have surgery at Primary Children's to pin/ screw the bone together. Judd took Eli to an Orthopedic specialist on Monday, and after re-setting and X-raying the very swollen arm again, we are told that there is a chance no surgery will be required. (I'm holding my breath and praying!) He re-splinted it with a very LARGE removable hard cast, at an angle, and said to come back in a week for more x-rays after the swelling has gone down.

Here he is the day it happened, all smiles. Poor boy:(

WE HAVE A WINNER!!

Thanks for sending your easy recipes my way, everyone! We had a blast trying them out. It was SO HARD to choose who would win... Thanks again for posting, and check out my new blog to see the WINNER right here: Keiauni Cooks

He's getting Baptized.

I like to look for rainbows, whenever there is rain, and ponder on the beauty of an earth made clean again. I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain. I want to be the best I can and live with God again.

I know when I am Baptized, my wrongs are washed away, and I can be forgiven and improve myself each day. I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain. I want to be the best I can and live with God again.

Contest Part Deux...

Sorry kids! I have been a bit under the weather with some allergies, and I haven't posted my next contest. I am busily making things for the winners of last week, and I should have them in the mail by Monday...so watch that mailbox:)

Mr Eli turned 8 last week, and lost his 4th tooth today, right before his soccer game. (we liked to refer to him as "snaggletooth"...but now we can't anymore!!) It took considerable coaxing to get him to pull it out! (we really didn't want to pay Dr. Whitehouse $63 smackaroos to do it again!)
Eli's roots don't dissolve very well, so it is really hard to pull the tooth out himself. (...and he tells us that he really enjoys the happy gas at the dentist's office:) Watch for a SMASHING awesome 8 year old post, and a photo with/and without the SNAGGLETOOTH. Coming Soon....

Contest #2 is about to get underway:

I am starting a recipe blog called Keiauni Cooks... and I would really love to kick it off with your favorite recipes! Simply post your favorite recipe that has 5 ingredients or less in the comments for this post, and I will MAKE THEM ALL!! I will then have Mr. Beagley (Judd) taste them all, and decide which one he LOVEs the most! The winner will receive:

-The honor of having their recipe be the 1st post on my new blog (I know...so EXCITING:)

-a $10 gift card to SONIC...because their "happy hour" (1/2 price drinks between 2-4pm) rocks my world:) after a day "mommyhood"

-A copy of the cookbook that I compiled during my pregnancy with Avey, for my ward...

So I'm off for bedtime routines, baby cuddling, and all that good stuff!
I'm so excited to see what you post!

Lucky.

I've been thinking a lot about all my blessings lately...things I am so greatful for. I am not sure how many people know this story that I am about to tell. It is something we haven't talked a lot about...but something I am greatful for, so here goes:
When out sweet little Avey "sassafras" was born, she was absolutely perfect in our eyes. She was beautiful, and our hearts were and always will be so full of love for her. When they were working on her little lungs after delivery, we were overwhelmed by gratitude when she started to breathe well on her own, and felt blessed. As they were cleaning her up, the nurses pointed out a growth on her lower middle back that was purple and swollen. We hadn't even noticed it. But it was there, and it looked scary. The pediatrician was called in, and came and spoke to us. We were told that our Daughter was very likely to have spina bifida, because the growth resembled a Myingocele where spinal fluid leaks into a sac in the lower back, because the spine is not closed. Further testing would be required to determine the seriousness of the situation. We were scared...I was devastated, and cried with tears of joy that she was alive and lovely, and tears of pain that her life ahead of her could be quite difficult. I prayed that Heavenly Father would take any blessings that he intended for me, and give them to her. I prayed she would be healed. I prayed she would be okay. We decided not to tell anyone about this looming situation, because we wanted to celebrate our daughter, and the news of her birth. We felt the spirit tell us to wait...wait and see what happens.

Her limbs all appeared to be functioning well, and after some other tests, it was determined that she would need an MRI and ultrasound imaging to address her situation. At 3 days old she had these tests, and we were called in when she was 4 days old to hear the good news! Her spine was formed perfectly! We were so RELIEVED. After a visit with a pediatric dermatologist at primary children's, we were told that she had a soft tissue Hemangioma, a birthmark, that appears more often on the face, but is 90% likely to disapear completely by the age of 5. We were so happy to hear that is wasn't serious, and were completely feeling blessed that it was on her back rather than her face!

So, my beautiful baby girl, at 8 months old now, seems to have been blessed with a miracle. At least that is how I see it. The birthmark is already almost completely gone! We feel so blessed that she is able to sit, crawl, and do all sorts of things, that she wouldn't have seen able to do, if the diagnoses had been spina bifida.

....Thanks for listening:)

A. Moment. of. SILENCE.

Take a moment. put your hand on your heart, hold a moment of silence in your heart, and remember. REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED ON September 11th, 2001. Always remember that day.

I am taking a moment to pray...for anyone and everyone that suffers because of this tragedy. Let us be thankful for all we have.
all we are given.
for those who fight for us.
and what we hold dear.
Let's REMEMBER what is really important on this day.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Kickin' it off with some style!

So, the Boyz kicked off the first day of school on August 21st, with matching Skater/Skull shirts, and thought it was terrific! (Eli was excited that his brother wanted to look just like him...NOT!)
Ash was so excited to start the 1st grade! When I told him who his teacher would be, he said, "Oh my, she has such a LOVELY voice!" (even though I don't think he had ever met her:))
There he is with his buds Brynlee, and Savannah. Isn't he lucky that he gets to sit by friends that he already knows? He thought so!
Eli is ready to LEARN! His teacher is so EXCITING, and FUN! He just adores her! (and he really likes this one girl in his class....yuck!)

You gotta love it! The first day of school. Our family tradition is to start the year off with father's blessings, night before school. Judd gave the boys terrific blessings. The spirit was strong, and full of peace afterwards. We all slept so soundly that night:) The next morning we had a traditional breakfast of eggs, sausage and pancakes, and then we loaded up our backpacks, put the baby in the stroller, and walked to school. We always walk on the 1st day!

When the boys came home I had piping hot cookies fresh from the oven ready (ha ha ha, just kidding) we went to Mickey D's for some soft serve to celebrate the day!

Avey and I are getting used to a new schedule, and Judd and I are enjoying a much cleaner house! (no one is here to mess it up!)

This is really SPECIAL....

Sunday... My little monkeys were SO good at church, until the very end. I was trying to nurse the baby in the foyer (with my hooter hider, of course:) and keep an eye on the boys the last 1/2 of sacrament meeting...(I was single on Sunday, as usual...so I couldn't moniter my boys and go to the mother's room...which is PRIVACY compromised anyway(he. he. another story), so why not nurse in the foyer?) Things went as well as they possible could in that situation, until the meeting ended, and everyone left the chapel. Avey was still eating and nearly asleep, so in my COMPROMISED position, it was obvious to the boys that if they wanted to do something, I wouldn't be able to stop them. They went up to the stand and turned the microphone on. They started slow, and made low noises in the microphone that weren't noticable...then the noises proceeded to get rude. Ughh! I was so frustrated, but still nursing. I asked a nice guy in our ward to go ask them to stop the naughtiness. HOW EMBARRASSING! They finally stopped the microphone business after the BISHOP went in and told them to please stop. (CAN I GO AND CRAWL under a rock??) I quickly wrapped up nursing, and went in to fetch my little HELLIONS. (can I say that?) I was met by the sight of them using the stand IN THE CHAPEL as a balancing beam ("like the OLYMPICS, Mom!") and being as quiet as can be.
I uttered no words. I held up my hand and started counting by holding up one finger at a time.
This signal in our family, means BIG trouble. They marched straight over to me, and knew not to say a word. I got everything ready to go, and they somberly followed me to our minivan. I told the kids, "we are going for a ride, and we are going to talk about how we should act at church. We are not stopping this car until you can tell me 5 things that are OK to do at church, and 5 things that are not acceptable at church." They moaned. Asher said "NEVER!" (that is his big threat:) Eli said " I wish I could die right now." But as the car ride proceeded they decided to break down, and do what they were told. I then gave a short lesson on Sunday Etiquette. After I was done talking, It occurred to me, it would be nice to go to the cemetary and see our Grandma's graves. If you look on the date of the headstone above, it says that Grandma Vay died Aug 24th 1996. It so happened that we were visiting her on Sunday Aug 24th, 2008! Here's the crazy part. I NEVER just feel the urge to go to the cemetary, but it felt like it would be a reverent place to go, so we went. I did not even notice the date on the headstone when we were there. I felt like Vay was happy that we were there, and that I brought the kids to visit.
When Judd got home from work he said " My Dad called today, and asked that I go visit grandma Vay's grave today" I looked at him and said "how come today?" and he said "today's the 12th anniversary of her passing away..." I was so surprised! I told him "are you kidding?" and told him that I had gone there today with the kids looking for some peaceful feelings, and that I had taken pictures. We hurried and pulled the pictures up on the computer.... Holy cow! The date says it all! Now I know why she was happy to see us:)

Project: Little Miss Sassafras...

I have been busy making things for my little Sassafras' room!! Check out her little vanity and mirror:) (courtesy of deseret industries, and Behr exterior paint)

I think that she likes it!!

I covered some fun BIG letters with scrapbook paper, and now we have her name up high for all to see...this is AVEY's room.

Another sweet yard sale find!! Can you believe that it ALMOST perfectly matches the "vanity" table?? This little dresser makes an awesome changing table.
I am having a blast decorating with an Asian theme, with shabby chic touches here and there. My next project involves a huge antique picture frame, Avey's blessing dress, and a couple of antique doorknobs. Wish me luck!!

Some Favorites....

His beautiful hair (age 2) We always joked that when we cut it, he would lose all his "powers"
It's kinda funny, because after someone told me how cute my "daughter" was for the 80th time (even though he was decked out in a baseball jersey, and had on a red sox hat...) I had my cousin give him a little boy cut.... He actually chilled, and was much calmer after that! Not as many crazy adventures with Ash! So, maybe it worked!

(photo: 6 mo.)
Judd quote: "I can't believe you dressed our son in that monkey suit." Sorry, ASH:)

One year old doin' what "touch of class" people do...yummy DP:)
